Blogs I'm Loving Lately

The title is rather self-explanatory :) But as a way of explanation - I took the majority of last week off from the 2 sites that consume most of my on-line time: GCM & Facebook. I spent that time writing, answering super-old e-mails, and catching up on blogs I enjoy. Here's a few of the ones I'm really into these days.

Heather Eats Almond Butter: she's funny, pregnant, and her method of intuitive eating intrigues me.
Choosing Raw: lots of fun, raw recipes
Green Smoothie Girl & Gluten-free Homemaker: 2 of my old standbys :)

I need to blog soon about where we are on our wheat, dairy & soy-free journey :)

I have a new blog!

I have a new blog: BK on a Budget. Special thanks to my friend, Jess, who came up with the name :) Here's a quote from my first post:

In this blog, I'll share some basics of couponing that can be done simply by reading some blogs, getting the Sunday paper and printing coupons off the internet. I'll also share freebies, giveaways, and random ideas about making money, scoring deals, and getting gift cards.

I'll continue posting some stuff here about frugality, while mainly using this blog to focus on healthy living, ministry, writing, reading and daily life.

So make sure to go over and add the other blog to your blog reader, if it interests you :)

More Simplifying in Regards to Blogging & Blog-reading

I've added a "Subscribe to" in the top of the right column of my blog (there has always been one at the bottom of the page). Then I went to every blog that I read & added it to my Google Reader. This will further streamline my internet time. Last night, I cleaned out my other 2 e-mails accounts (one had over 800 e-mails in the inbox!), and I'm down to 14 e-mails in one inbox & only 8 in the other.

I feel lighter already!

Blogs, Weather & Produce

Do you ever click on the "Next Blog" feature at the top of Blogspot blogs? I did for the 1st time today, and the first 3 or 4 blogs that came up were not in English :) I wonder if that's an accurate sampling of what is out there on Blogspot.

The weather here has been awful - rainy, thunderstorms, etc., which is not conducive to exercise. In fact, it's supposed to rain Thursday & Friday. I did go for a run yesterday, probably about 3 miles, and a long walk today with Noodles & Bear, which was probably about 4.5-5 miles. Usually Noodles puckers out after 2-3 miles, but he kept going strong the whole time. I probably helped that he kept finding wet places to rub in, and I brought along some water for him.

I'm also getting back into the green smoothie habit after only having 3 or 4 last week. I even subjected my mother to some :) She actually seemed to like it! After we picked up my mom at the train on Saturday, we headed over to Haymarket, where they have a huge fruit & veggie open-air market on Fridays & Saturdays. None of it is organic, unfortunately, but is it ever cheap! Most of it is quite ripe, so you need to either freeze it or use it quickly. I stocked up on bananas (4 pounds for $1!) for making smoothies & ice cream, as well as sweet potatoes for Bear, lettuce (green leaf & romaine), apples, peaches, raspberries, blueberries & strawberries. We even splurged & got some of those yellow cherries at $1.50 a pound. Altogether, I only spent $17.50! I wish it were closer to home, as I'd go more often.

I've been quite cold lately. The temperature has been hovering in the low 70's, and my body doesn't know what to do with that. Right now, it's 75, and I'm wearing a hooded sweatshirt. My fingers are freezing & I'd make a cup of tea if Bear & I weren't upstairs.

Brrrrrr......isn't it supposed to be summer?

The 5 Blogs I Read the Most

I wanted to take a moment to share with you all the blogs I read the most.

These are in no particular order :)

Kristen's Raw
- raw, vegan, and healthy living talk
Green Smoothie Girl - green smoothie talk

Confessions of a CF Husband - the blog of a man whose wife has cystic fibrosis

The Simple Dollar - a financial blog by an everyday guy

Everyday Thoughts Collected - the blog of my friend and ministry colleague Randy Thomas

One of the reasons I generally check these blogs daily is because they all basically blog daily, if not at least on a regular basis. So to all the bloggers out there - if you want people to frequent your blog, make sure to write regularly.

In fact, here's a good article on blogging: 12 Traits of Successful Bloggers

Travels & Illness

We safely made the trip up to His Mansion today, and Roy did go along, though I think it made his illness worse. And he has to go back to work tomorrow. Poor guy :(

I'm building up my list of blogs to read, and I'm specifically looking for more blogs on finances, simple living, and food :) By "finances", I don't mean "get rich as quick as you can and don't care who you step on to get there". I don't really have time to explain what I mean as there's a Bear trying to climb into my lap, but I mean more like simple living/"Your Money or Your Life"-type stuff.

Night!
