Race for the Cure Tomorrow!

The Race for the Cure is tomorrow at 9 AM! The race happens, rain or shine. Unfortunately, Bear may not be running with me. He has a fever of 103 today. Also, if it's raining, the stroller is not weather-proofed, so we are going to have to play it by ear.

I'm running no matter what, so I'll keep you updated.

The Heat

It is 97 degrees out. The Weather Channel website says the humidity is only 39%, but that it feels as if it's 102 degrees out. I believe it. We're all hanging out in our tiny bedroom, taking advantage of the air conditioning unit we put in the window last night. It's supposed to stay in the 90's until Wednesday.

Wowsers.

I went running last Friday, as well as on Tuesday, even though it was 85 degrees that day. But 90 degrees? That seems a whole lot warmer than 85!

The Bear slept all through church today. 2 of our friends took turns holding him, which was nice, especially since I hadn't been in church for 2 weeks & Roy hadn't been for 3. It felt great to be back.

So today will consist of as much lounging and beverage-drinking as possible. Tomorrow will most likely be more of the same! Roy is still sick, so he could use the rest.

Travels & Illness

We safely made the trip up to His Mansion today, and Roy did go along, though I think it made his illness worse. And he has to go back to work tomorrow. Poor guy :(

I'm building up my list of blogs to read, and I'm specifically looking for more blogs on finances, simple living, and food :) By "finances", I don't mean "get rich as quick as you can and don't care who you step on to get there". I don't really have time to explain what I mean as there's a Bear trying to climb into my lap, but I mean more like simple living/"Your Money or Your Life"-type stuff.

Night!

One Bear Improved, the Other Worsens

Baby Bear is getting better. His armpit temperature didn't register above 100 today, which is good since last night, it spiked again to an even higher temp than Sunday night. We even went running today, and somehow he fell asleep, despite the bumps & barking dog (I took Noodles on the 2nd lap). The run was surprisingly easy, despite my unbalanced lunch :) I had some rotisserie chicken and a gluten-free brownie. I generally eat relatively healthily and even had a green smoothie yesterday, so maybe that made up for it. I also had garbanzo flour pancakes with rice protein for breakfast - very scrumptious!

I'm getting more interested in eating raw foods, though I can't eat many of the recipes I find because they all include nuts & seeds. Since I'm currently eating dairy, soy, corn, wheat, nut & mostly seed-free (I occasionally eat pumpkin seeds or tahini), many of the recipes are off-limits to me. I guess I'll just stick with green smoothies for now!

The plan for traveling tomorrow is still up in the air. If Roy is sick, then the Bear & I will travel alone with our friend we are bringing to a recovery program in NH. That should be interesting, as the farthest I've traveled alone in the car with the Bear is less than an hour, and the treatment center is 2-2.5 hours away. Little does my friend know he may be on baby entertainment duty tomorrow!

Sick Household

So Bear's fever got progressively worse last night until it reached almost 105. We called the pediatrician, who sent us to Children's Hospital. I'm glad we went, but boy, was it heart-breaking to watch them work on our Bear! It seems he may have inherited his mom's veins: small & rolly. They tried to stick him to get blood, holding him down while he screamed for what seemed like an eternity, until he literally started foaming at the mouth because he was so upset. They had to have a different nurse come in & try, and she was able to get blood from his hand. His white blood cell counts were elevated, so they sent off his blood to do a culture; we'll know the results in a day or two. His chest x-ray was clear, so no pneumonia. His fever was down to close to 99 degrees by the time we left. By this morning, it was back up to 102, but now it seems to be down again. Poor little guy.

Now Roy has a fever and is home sick from work! So I ran out to the store to stock up on beverages & tissues. Hopefully everyone gets better soon, and I don't get sick myself!
